The 2026 Toyota RAV4 marks a significant evolution in the compact SUV segment, introducing a fully electrified lineup with hybrid and plug-in hybrid options. Notably, this sixth-generation RAV4 will be manufactured in Canada, underscoring Toyota's commitment to the Canadian automotive industry. (1)

Electrification and Performance
Toyota has transitioned the RAV4 to an all-hybrid lineup, eliminating traditional gasoline-only models. The plug-in hybrid variant, particularly the model that interests us most is in the GR Sport trim, delivering up to 320 horsepower and an estimated 80 kilometers of electric-only range, catering to both performance enthusiasts and eco-conscious drivers. GR Sport: Performance Meets Efficiency

The GR Sport trim introduces a sportier aesthetic and enhanced driving dynamics. Features include 20-inch alloy wheels, GR-tuned suspension components, and reinforced chassis bracing, providing a more engaging driving experience without compromising efficiency. Don’t expect the GR Sport to be faster than the other PHEV RAV4s however it will benefit from a sportier drive thanks to GR-tuned suspension and a more rigid body. (2)
Canadian Production and Market Impact

Production of the 2026 RAV4 will take place at Toyota's plants in Cambridge and Woodstock, Ontario. This decision not only supports the Canadian economy but also ensures that the vehicles are tailored to meet the specific needs of Canadian drivers.
Interior and Technology Upgrades

Inside, the RAV4 features a modernized cabin with a customizable 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and Toyota's latest multimedia system. The interface supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while the GR Sport trim adds unique interior accents to distinguish it from other models. (2)
Anticipated Pricing and Availability
Our expectation on pricing will put the GR Sport to approach the $68,000 CAD mark once you add on any options that would make the car more enjoyable to drive and own. The 2025 RAV4 PHEV XSE w/Technology Package will set you back over $65,000 today. We also expect that we won’t see many 2026 models on dealers lots till early 2026. Pricing, fuel economy
Final Thoughts
There’s a reason the Toyota RAV4 has held its spot as Canada’s top-selling passenger vehicle. It delivers on the essentials, reliability, comfort, and long-term value. For many, it’s the dependable choice that gets the job done without fuss.
The 2026 redesign doesn’t attempt to reinvent what already works. The overall shape is familiar, and you can still tell it’s a RAV4 at first glance, that’s intentional. When you’ve built something so trusted, there’s little need to start from scratch. Instead, Toyota has made thoughtful updates, each trim features a slightly different grille and minor styling cues that help distinguish the lineup without disrupting the core identity.
Where it falls short for some is inside. The GR Sport trim adds some visual excitement with its sport seats and contrast accents, but overall, the interior remains understated. It feels like Toyota is reserving its more upscale interior features for the Lexus NX, even though the RAV4 often wins on practicality and cargo space.

From our perspective at Eternity Car Care, Toyota and Lexus vehicles are a pleasure to maintain. Their engineering is straightforward and dependable, and once set on a personalized maintenance schedule, they tend to perform predictably well. That reliability is no accident; it’s earned through design and consistency.
As for the RAV4 Prime plug-in hybrid, we hope that increased Canadian production will reduce the long wait times that many buyers have faced. Still, expect early units in to be claimed by customers who placed deposits more than 18 months ago.
In short, Toyota didn’t overthink this update and that might be exactly why it will continue to sell just as well. Tell us what you think.
